We offer four classrooms here at MLP.
Our first class is the Sprouts; Ages 12months-24months.
The Sprout Classroom is a safe , stimulating environment that fosters exploration, social interaction and learning through play.
Our third class is the Geckos; Ages 3 years-4 years.
The Gecko Classroom focuses on social, emotional, cognitive, fine motor and gross motor skills. These Early Childhood Development milestones are achieved by understanding our student’s natural desires to comprehend the world around them. In our Gecko Classroom we become more self-reliant and are able to accomplish bigger life skills by taking a bigger part in their independence. Cleaning up after themselves and taking care of their own things play a big part of their day. Developing problem solving skills are incorporated into their daily routine. In the Gecko Classroom we dive deeper into our curriculum to serve the whole body. Students are engaged daily through language and cognitive activities.
Allie Edens
Founder + Director
Hello Families!
My name is Allie Edens and I am the founder and director of Mountain Laurel Playschool. I went to school at Warren Wilson College and obtained my BA in Outdoor Education and Psychology. I have spent the last 16 years in the field of education in some form or another. I absolutely love working with children. I get a lot of joy from teaching. There is nothing more rewarding than watching children make connections and apply what they are learning to their world. Teaching is all about making positive relationships and the powerful learning that is experienced. I am the mother of four children. I enjoy spending time with my family exploring the outdoors. I also enjoy kayaking, reading and plants. I look forward to growing with your children and their families!
Our second class is the Otters; Ages 24months-36months.
The Otter Classroom is designed to introduce age appropriate materials in which students are invited to make choices from a variety of activities. These activities are designed to support each student's individual growth and needs. In our Otter Classroom we focus on the development of basic trust while supporting their emerging sense of self. We encourage independence and self-confidence through learning and social experiences.
Our fourth classroom is the Crickets; Ages 4 years-5 years.
The Cricket Classroom focuses on pre-kindergarten skills. In addition to all the skills they have built throughout their time at MLP the Crickets begin the exciting process of building a foundation for learning that will stay with them throughout their lifetime. Here at MLP we use Experience Curriculum. Experience Curriculum uses a connected ecosystem for early childhood education that includes research based early learning curriculum, an integrated assessment system, best-in-class professional development and more. Our curriculum system uniquely weaves 35 research-based skills into playful games and projects. As children participate, they naturally grow in all areas of development, including social-emotional, physical, language and cognitive development.
